Experience, background and philosophy

Dr Michelle Pizer is an organisational and counselling psychologist and executive coach based in Melbourne. For over 25 years she has worked with senior leaders across corporate, professional services and government settings, helping them think clearly under pressure.

Her background spans marketing, human resources, management consulting and organisational research. She began her career at National Mutual, moved into management consulting at Ernst & Young where she was first introduced to systems psychodynamic thinking, and later led the customised research division at Roy Morgan before establishing her own practice in 2001.

Her academic work includes two research degrees, both supervised by Professor Susan Long. A Master of Business (Research) at Swinburne University examined career success in a professional services firm; her PhD at RMIT explored the psychodynamics of working life, including how people sustain dignity and hope against the compromises that work demands. She has presented this work at international and national conferences including the British Academy of Management, the American Academy of Management, and the International Conference on Emotions and Worklife.

Michelle is a member of NIODA’s Academic Board of Governance.
