The Education Committee is a permanent standing committee of the Academic Board of Governance that is responsible for the operational aspects of the delivery of NIODA Academic Programs and Research and Scholarship as delegated by the Academic Board. The committee reports on its activities to the Academic Board once each semester. 

The tasks and responsibilities of the Education Committee are as follows: 

  • Monitoring teaching and learning strategies 

  • Monitoring curriculum development and assessment procedures

  • Monitoring benchmarking and moderation procedures

  • Student selection and progress review

  • Identification and planning for ‘at risk’ students

  • Approving award completions

  • Managing staff induction

  • Managing within the academic budget

  • Monitoring staff work role reviews

  • Monitoring staff development and publications

  • Supporting research activities

  • Managing staff and student grievance, misconduct and appeals processes

  • Managing student experience evaluations

  • Community development and liaison

  • Other activities as the Academic Board determines

The Education Committee delegates authority to committees and individuals to assist in its work. A committee or individual operating under such delegation must report on its activities to the Education Committee and in the manner the Committee directs.

 

Membership of the Education Committee comprises:

  • The Director of Academic Programs who is the chair of the committee

  • all academic, research, student support and administrative staff with ongoing or fixed term employment contracts

 

The Education Committee meets at least once per month during the academic year.

There is a quorum of three academic/research staff members and one administrative staff member
